As a person with some inside information on BuyRite, I'll address some of the claims on this board:
BuyRite charged my card for something three months ago and I still didn't get it!:
It is not unusual for BuyRite to charge customers for products they don't have in stock, however, they do usually either have the item on order, or plan to order it. Unfortunately the wait time could be anything from days to months, depending on how hard the item is to get, how long the order sits in the pile and how long it takes the owner to remember to order it. As a general rule, consider pretty much anything listed on the website as in stock that is not a current title to be suspect. There are many items on the website that have not been in stock for years. If something is extremely rare and hard to get and BuyRite has it on the site for much less than you'd expect to pay, chances are they don't really have it. There are some exceptions. He does sometimes manage to get great deals on some hard to find items.
I ordered something and I didn't get half the items and what I did get was broken and they won't refund me!
They will refund customers, but the practice is so strongly discouraged internally that employees are reluctant to submit refund requests, since they will almost always be yelled at, accused of costing the company money, loseing sales, etc for doing so. Once requests are submitted, it often takes weeks for them to actually be processed, assuming the owner doesn't lose the paperwork first.
I got my game and it had a sandwhich in it, smelled like smoke and was covered in rat turds!:
These stories are pretty much 99.9% guarnteed to be BS. While some items that are sold that have been traded in are not exactly in pristine condition, most merchandise they sell is of reasonable quality, tested and cleaned up before the sale. They don't do a great job in terms of packing items well, but no food, smokes or drinks are allowed in the packing area, so those stories are bunk.
I called the company 23 times and the employees were rude and I think they should all be killed!
For some strange reason, BuyRite actually has very good employees, who for the most part don't end up working there for very long. The owner is a complete paranoid, moron, control freak with no people skills whatsoever. He yells at the employees constantly, bangs his fists on his desk, whines, curses, slams doors and generally acts like a large very ugly child. He also screams at the phone reps while they are trying to do their job and gets ticked if they don't just parrot what he tells them to say. Whatever complaints you have about service can be placed in the owner's lap. The employees generally are doing the best they can under very bad conditions.
BuyRite uses people's credit cards to give themselves feedback on Ebay!
I can't say without a doubt that this is false, but I would be very surprised if it were true. It would be way too easy to get caught doing something like that. As far as I know their feedback rating was 100% above the boards. Part of their positive score was related to their own purchases, part of it was because they generally provided better service to Ebay customers than to regular customers, though that seemed to drop off towards the end before they either got suspended or changed their id again.
BuyRite sells bootleg games.
They have probably received bootleg stuff on trade or from dealers and sold it, but they do not set out sell bootleg stuff. If something is an obvious bootleg they generally will not sell it.
The bottom line with BuyRite:
They do not generally set out to rip customers off. They do however operate in a manner that I think most people would consider to be unethical. I'd say about 85% of customers get most of their order in a timely fashion and in good quality. 10% will probably get their items in 1 - 4 weeks. The remaining are the unlucky group who will either have to wait a month or more or deal with the hassle of getting a refund. If you shop with BuyRite you will probably receive at least part of your order in a reasonable manner and not be charged for the rest, however they are unreliable enough that I would not encourage anyone to shop there. In addition, I would discourage customers from supporting a business owner who is uninterested in good service and treats his employees extremely poorly.
